I’m so excited by this piece, bringing humanity back into the process, not just viral content making factory mindset is something I can’t wait to see more of! I’ve felt for a long time for creatives and even small business owners that the true passion gets usurped by the “must” to go viral or quality of work is judged by view count and it’s just simply untrue. Very excited to read more of this letter!!
you get it!! it’s so soul crushing to see creatives feel like they have to jump on trends or feel the pressure to go viral. I’ve worked with plenty of influencers and even though they have huge followings, that doesn’t translate into success or views or true interest and engagement with what they’re offering. anyways, so happy to have you here!! always open to hearing about topics or things you want to see in this newsletter!
instant subscribe! looking forward to what you publish here, as i mentioned before that ‘Against Content’ was the one that got me hooked on your writing.
(could the ‘social media app you’ve never heard of’ be Farcaster by any chance? i’d like to think so and i’ll imagine that it is 😌 ahaha)
"Plus, I come from academia (I got my Ph.D. from OSU in 2020). And for some reason, it’s deeply shameful to do anything other than be a professor." - So relatable, I chuckled a bit. It’s true: you’ve got to do something posh, or "hoch," as Germans would say, or else you’re embarrassing yourself. I never thought about it like that, but it’s spot on, at least in Europe.
Anyhow, a great big shoutout to remaining true to yourself. I believe people are starting to see through the bullshit and give up on it. I see fewer and fewer people role-playing on social media. They're getting off LinkedIn. Maybe it’s just my circle, but I’m happy about it because it reveals some nice, true, honest values.
